1964 Chevrolet Facts

"Makes roads feel as smooth as the maps they're printed on "

"Jet smooth luxury Chevrolet"

1964 saw no radical changes from the past year other than sheetmetal design and a few cosmetic changes. Even the powerplants were carried over from the previous year. Cars continued to have the 119 inch wheel base and 209.9 inches in length except the wagons were now 210.8 inches long this year.

This year did see one important change in that the Supersports were now a seperate model. This makes identifying them today much easier. Supersports would now be indentified by a "13" in it's VIN number for a 6 cylinder SS car or "14" for a V-8 SS car.

An interesting oddity on paint colors for this year was Goldenwood yellow. It was only available for 2 door models (Impala or SS) and only with black interior. Convertible top color choices this year are; black, white, or beige. Vinyl tops are available in white and black.

Some highlights for '64 include:

15 single or 11 two tone colors to choose from.
Windsplit molding on hood and deck lid for Impala models.
Optional vinyl covered top-(only white or black and only on the Impala sport coupe)
Optional wire wheel covers
Optional chrome plated wheels this year available in 14X5 or 14X6 (came with standard hub cap)
7.00 x 14 blackwall tubeless tires were standard on all models except: 7.50 x 14 on Impala convertible and 8.00 x 14 on all station wagons.
Standard engines for '64 were: The 230 cubic inch 6 cylinder rated at 140 hp or the 195hp 283.

Optional engines:

327 250hp (RPO L-30)
327 300hp (RPO L-74)
